Project Overview
Background
On 30 December 2019, the world was notified about a pneumonia of unknown cause in Wuhan, China (WHO, 2020). Since then, scientists have made remarkable progress in understanding the causative agent, a severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2).
Objectives
The overall objective of HRH-SEMCA is to assist African public health decision makers in their effort to fight efficiently COVID-19 and prevent possible future epidemics/pandemics by providing key information on the dynamic patterns of COVID-19

In the three-year span of SARS-CoV-2 infections, many influencing factors remain unclear, including its seasonality. Despite numerous studies, findings on seasonal patterns vary over time and location, necessitating further investigations, particularly in Africa, where the low number of cases was surprising, to avoid a looming health shock of the pandemic on the continent. This study aims to explore SARS-CoV-2 seasonality across three climate zones.

Research stays at the Medical Biometry Institute, Freiburg
From 01.06.2023 to 30.08.2023, Ms Yvette Montcho (PhD student) and Dr Jonas Doumatè (Junior researcher) will stay at the University of Freiburg in the frame of the HRH-SEMCA. They will stay at the Institute of Medical Biometry and Statistics for three months, where they will conduct their research under Prof Martin Wolkewitz’s supervision.
